Do TV mysteries count for Akira's quest?
Do mysteries outside town count?
Akira is one of Welcome to Elderfield’s quiet quest-givers: no gift table or schedule is documented for him yet, but his task is the reason many players go mystery-hunting in the first place. This page covers where he lives, how his quest counts, and the spots the community most often misses. Pair it with the mysteries guide and the full mystery locations list.
Who Is Akira?
| Role | Quest giver (mystery task line) |
| Home | Apartment building northwest of your home, Town |
| Neighbors | Adrian lives in the same building |
| Quest | Solve seven town mysteries, then return for the reward |
| Available since | Demo (originally tracking five; release tracks seven) |
He is one of the NPCs the game’s task text sends you back to without a map marker — the same gap that makes Tanner hard to pin down whenever his schedule has an override. The developer has said clearer location descriptions are coming, which should ease the “where is Akira” hunt this page answers.
Where to Find Akira
Head northwest from your home to the apartment building. Both Akira and Adrian live there, so the building solves two “return to the NPC” tasks at once. Nights are the safest bet for finding residents at home — the same pattern as Edwin’s porch-light rule.
How Akira’s Mysteries Quest Counts
The task asks for seven mysteries and shows an anomaly counter in the quest description under Tasks. What moves that counter:
- Counts: static, interactable dice-roll vignettes found on objects in Town and the Mall — the ones described in the mysteries guide, which reset weekly
- Does not count: TV mysteries (a separate system) and out-of-town finds — Old Forest mysteries will not progress the counter
At seven of seven, the task tells you to return to the quest giver — Akira — to collect the reward. Demo-era versions of the task tracked five mysteries; the release build tracks seven.
The Spots Players Miss Most
If the counter stalls, the community’s most-cited misses are all in the Mall:
- The ATM and the hole tree — the tree is easy to skip because you cannot reach it directly
- The smoothie place in the food court area — look for the red, organ-looking stuff on the floor
- The shop between the music store and the sports store — it can be entered, and a mystery red cabinet sits in the back corner
Outside the Mall, Dave’s house hides a commonly missed mystery. For the complete set with directions, see mystery locations. None of this is needed on day one — the beginner’s first days have a cleaner order of operations — but Akira’s reward is a nice early milestone once your mystery eye is trained.
