Elderfield Mining Guide - Ores, Pickaxe Tiers and Every Mine Floor
Elderfield mining: the pickaxe ladder from Rusty to Diamond, the ores on all twelve mine floors with community odds, weekly respawns, and the enemies underground.
FAQ
How do you unlock mining in Elderfield?
Do ore deposits respawn?
Where do Mithril and Blackiron spawn?
Underground Elderfield is a twelve-floor ladder running from the Beginner Mines down to the Catacombs, and it gates the whole tool economy: each pickaxe upgrade is paid for in ore the floors yield. The ladder below shows what ore sits on which floor, what it costs to upgrade, and what tries to kill you between the two.
How does mining work in Welcome to Elderfield?
Three rules carry the system. Pickaxe tiers gate ores — each ore type needs a pickaxe of matching tier or better, which is why the ladder below matters. Deposits respawn weekly — a floor you strip clean on Monday is restocked the following week. And mining is not safe: while you swing, monsters attack, debris flies, and curses happen — the hazard trio the community wiki lists for mining.
The Pickaxe Ladder
Every upgrade is forged at the Workshop — the building Molly’s errand unlocks alongside the starting pickaxe:
| Pickaxe | Crafting cost |
|---|---|
| Rusty Pickaxe | Granted by Helping Molly (bring Copper Ore) |
| Sturdy Pickaxe | 3 Copper + 1 Wood |
| Quality Pickaxe | 3 Iron + 2 Wood |
| Golden Pickaxe | 5 Gold + 5 Wood |
| Diamond Pickaxe | 3 Diamond + 10 Wood |
The ladder doubles as a to-do list — each recipe but the top tier’s is paid for in the next ore down the floor tables, so the natural loop is “dig a floor, forge the tier, dig deeper.” One boundary marker: Diamond, the top tier’s material, appears in no documented floor table below — where it comes from is part of the deeper game.
Ore by Floor
Community-documented deposit odds for all twelve floors:
| Floor | Ore mix (share of deposits where listed) |
|---|---|
| Beginner Mines F1 | Copper 44% · Iron 22% · Coal 22% · Void Crystal 11% · Green Crystal |
| Beginner Mines F2 | Iron 34% · Copper · Coal 17% · Void Crystal 11% · Green Crystal 6% |
| Beginner Mines F3 | Iron 41% · Coal · Void Crystal 11% · Green Crystal · Gold |
| Mall Mines F1 | Gold 34% · Iron · Coal · Void Crystal · Green Crystal |
| Mall Mines F2 | Coal 44% · Void Crystal 22% · Gold 22% · Iron 11% · Green Crystal |
| Mall Mines F3 | Coal 45% · Void Crystal 27% · Gold 18% · Iron 9% |
| Old Woods Mines F1 | Coal 47% · Void Crystal 20% · Gold 13% · Mithril 13% · Iron 7% |
| Old Woods Mines F2 | Coal · Void Crystal 30% · Mithril 20% · Gold · Iron |
| Old Woods Mines F3 | Void Crystal 40% · Mithril 20% · Blackiron 20% · Gold · Coal |
| Catacombs F1 | Void Crystal 30% · Gold 20% · Mithril 20% · Blackiron 10% |
| Catacombs F2 | Void Crystal 35% · Mithril 25% · Blackiron 25% · Gold |
| Catacombs F3 | Blackiron 60% · Void Crystal 30% · Mithril 10% · Gold |
Read it as a progression: copper and iron own the Beginner Mines, gold arrives in force from the Mall Mines, mithril joins in the Old Woods, and blackiron runs the Catacombs — floor 3 of which is the closest thing the game has to a blackiron quarry. Void Crystal is the constant at every depth, which quietly makes it the backbone of the gift guide’s void tier — Sam, Edwin and Molly all take Void Crystal products, while Alice’s table refuses every one of them.
What Lives Down There
Each mine has its own population:
| Mine | Documented encounters |
|---|---|
| Beginner Mines | Living Rock, Caveman |
| Mall Mines | Mimic, Living Plant, Hungry Plant |
| Old Woods Mines | Mimic, Living Plant, Hungry Plant, Caveman, Fingermen, Chest Mimic, Door Mimic |
| Catacombs | Not yet documented in the community mining tables |
Two of those names are traps, not monsters — Chest and Door Mimics turn “loot the room” into a combat guide pop quiz. The elements-and-weaknesses table there is the prep sheet, and its standing rule is worth repeating underground: retreating from a losing fight is always available, and the ore stays put for a better day.
The Weekly Reset Route
Because deposits restock weekly, the efficient loop is a standing appointment per tier of progress: strip the Beginner floors early for the copper-to-iron climb, redirect to the Mall Mines the moment the Golden Pickaxe recipe is the goal, then run Old Woods floors for mithril — and treat Catacombs floor 3 as the blackiron endgame. The farming guide pairs this with the crop calendar for days when the mines are picked clean, and the Catacombs floors double as mystery territory, so investigation tools earn their bag slots on the same trip.
One spoiler-free boundary note: the Deep Woods differs from everything above, and the community keeps its details behind spoiler tags — the twelve floors in the table are the documented map.
